July 2010
I’d say our “honeymoon” period is over. We’ve been spending much more time together this summer, which means more differences in opinion. But at the same time that makes it feel much more real. And there is nothing better than discussing the life we want to works towards together, changing our current lifestyle together and talking about our career, travel and farm dreams....
Confederate flag sightings:
It’s easy to forget that NoVa is only a small part of the southern state of Virginia. That said, I only spotted three confederate flags (c.f.) today:
A group if three teenage boys were walking along the highway. One was carrying a shotgun or rifle and another was carrying a high flying c.f. I’m gonna go ahead and assume they were heading to the nearby civil war battlefield for a...
I graduated from high school 10 years ago. If you had asked me then (or even a few years ago) what my dream life is I would have wanted to be working as a high-powered labor lobbyist enjoying a string of torrid love affairs and dying before I had to slow down. Oh how things change.
My new dream life is living on a small farm in Vermont married to C and producing multimedia packages for the local...
I’m feeling pretty anxious. Driving 2.5 hours into Shenandoah today to interview the founder of Arganica and some of their volunteers. I have such high hopes for turning around a good video. Even new responsibilites with my real job are dependent on this. Guh.

We went to see Despicable Me this weekend (super cute movie). The theater was completely packed and sold out, but that didn’t stop a couple behind us from bringing their tiny newborn to the 9:35 PM movie and taking up a seat with the baby’s carrier. Just as the movie was about to start someone asked them to move the carrier to the floor so they’d have a seat for the movie....
Things I'm looking forward to:
1. Traveling down to Ruckersville, Virginia on Wednesday to interview and shoot for my documentary. 2. Pretending to be a DC tourist with my aunt on Friday. 3. Party time with the boys on Saturday, even though it’s a going away for my fave of the roomies. 4. Dinner with the in-laws on Sunday. 5. Editing my documentary. 6. Arcade Fire and Spoon on Aug. 6. 7. Co-worker’s lobster feast (I...
Weekend rundown:
I had a fairly low-key weekend, but it was filled with food. So my weekly rundown will be everything I ate:
Thursday dinner: C and I made the most delicious tacos ever. I hadn’t made tacos in like a year and had been craving them. We melted cheese on a tortilla then wrapped that over a crunchy shell. Mmm.
Friday lunch: I don’t work Fridays in the summer, so I stay over in Clarendon....
The new Forever 21 near Metro Center is the best place for people watching, hands down.

Hmm. A few weeks ago it seemed like all these couples I knew were breaking up. Now it seems like everyone is getting engaged and married.
Just finished my first two interviews for my documentary. I won’t have the cable to hook my camera up to my computer until Saturday, and my interviewees leave the country this weekend so I won’t be able to reshoot anything. AHHH. Video is so nervewracking. And I think I really suck at getting b-roll.
Please please please let me turn this project out. I gotta do this story justice.
Do I want to pay $60 for music for my documentary?

Big things are happening. I can feel it.
Oh and I must be manic. I was kinda cranky this past weekend, and now I feel like dancing with every step.
I love everything I’m experiencing through my grad program. The documentary idea I really wanted to pursue is going to work out and I’ll be spending the next two Wednesdays filming and learning out in rural Virginia. So stoked I did a little dance around my office.

Ahhhhh! Why did the six bug bites I got last night just now start itching all at once?

Ew, I’d have to learn how to empty out a sewage tank.
Alex: basically, when you attempt to sound intelligent in your writing you end up sounding like a muppet-fucker
From a Craigslist posting:
Greetings room seeker, I recently underwent a change of employment and to supplement my new (and lesser) income I decided to get a roomie! It is important to know that you will not have your own private room, but rather your own private couch (or an air bed if you choose to buy one). I live in a spacious one bedroom apt with a great view of the DMV area from the veranda. I am asking for...
Jess: you have changed from a commie socialist to a wanna be yuppie Amy
Jess: Clarendon is where the real Washingtonians keep the yuppies
Weekend highlights:
Merriweather was packed for Jack Johnson. And I mean completely, every inch of space taken packed. Annoyingly packed with married couples who drank way too much and couldn’t even stand. I am no longer a fan of that venue, but will be back in a few weeks for Spoon and Arcade Fire, so I hope that show is a little better.
Sunday was the best. We woke up early and walked over the Dupont Circle...
My friends have all informed me they will not visit if I move to Clarendon:(
I’ve just planned a two week road/camping trip. Who wants to come with? A - Great Sand Dunes National Park B - Moab C - Yellowstone D - Glacier National Park E - Banff National Park (aka Canadian Rockies)
Weird/interesting things from today:
1. Getting tumeric all over my hands. That stuff is like yellow ink. But so yummy. 2. Having a conversation with my parents about where their wills are, who their lawyers are, where their burial plots are, me getting my dad’s custom knives and guns (which I promised to never sell) and my mom’s diamonds. Jeez. 3. Hearing my mom ask my dad if he’s going to get two Harley’s...
Anonymous asked: on a scale from 1-10 how excited are you to see me in two and half hours?
I want to see Despicable Me just because of this lil cutie character.
Ask me anything. I'm bored. →
