April 2010
Alex: you on a motorcycle.
Alex: no.
Me: why does everyone say that
Alex: collective intelligence
Alex: listen to the people, amy
Alex: the people say YOU HAVE NO PLACE ANYWHERE NEAR A FUCKING MOTORCYCLE
Alex: you will kill us all.
Alex: the amy/motorcycle apocalypse
Me: well i disagree
Alex: that is your right
Alex: but your right is wrong
It’s official. I’m old and crotchety. Decided I had to get away from my desk and step outside, so I headed over to Caribou. I usually brew my own coffee, and rarely purchase anything other than whatever coffee of the day is (consumed black of course.) Anyway, so I’m in the mood for something sweet and get a iced vanilla latte. Sucka cost $5. When did coffee drinks get that...
Alex: just steal some phillip glass for your audio track
Me: you mean ira glass?
Alex: no
Alex: i mean philip glass
Alex: if i meant ira glass, i would have typed 'ira glass'
RIP Porter's
So sad. A bar that holds many memories for me has closed, and no new location will be the same. Can’t even tell you how many nights I spent there, holding my nose in the smelly basement, dancing upstairs, enjoying free, strong drinks. Let’s all pour one out for our homey this weekend.
Most annoying interview I've ever read →
One one hand it’s cool she’s so open. On the other, god, way too dramatic.
10 years ago I started college at Penn State on a chemistry scholarship. Never in a million years would I have guessed I’d end up a “web editor” with a strong interest in photojournalism.
Hell, even last year when I was working in public relations I would have never thought my job would be to update websites, write articles, produce videos, etc.
Life is random and amazing.
Ahhahahaha.
I am so deeply in love, with both my partner and my city. We had so much fun wandering around H Street taking photos of the not-so revitalized parts, then had dinner at Sticky Rice with another couple who will be vacationing with us this August. I love that whole area and how it feels like a neighborhood. Everyone seemed to know each other, and if they didn’t, they struck up conversation....
Stoked to have picked a final project I can have fun with. Going to do an audio slideshow about H St NE revitalization, which means I’ll have to spend the next three evenings hanging out over there taking videos and talking to people. Glad to finally have some work that excites me rather than stress me out.
Fun new time waster →
I visited a high school today that went from being a school of last resort to school of first choice, and the transformation was initiated by the local teacher’s union. It was inspiring to talk to students there and hear from teachers and administrators about the great school they’ve built together. At the same time it’s sad. We know what works and what can help struggling...
Can’t wait to get home. Five days without seeing my love is way too many. And I’m too exhausted for any fun on this trip:(
DC is getting a beer garden!!! →
Way to become even more rad H St! And note this article is old, but the place is supposed to open any weekend now!
I don’t know how I ever lived without an iPhone. Gmail and text with my love, Foursquare for food options at the Dallas airport, Facebook to keep up with friends, Twitter and AP app for news, Safari to access work email, etc. I’d be dying of boredom without it.
Watching the sunrise here at DCA. I so wish I had recorded my cabbie this morning. He just had that great, gregarious way of talking. I now know all about his allergies and how he’s learned to avoid picking up really drunk people.
Lobster Rolls Coming to DC →
In Washington, she continued, “it’s a great time to get in at the beginning, and we figure that we have at least two more years with a bunch of transplanted Ivy League New Englanders in the government aching for a lobster roll.”
K: this one came along at the right time ames. Im glad u took enough time to heal, but you remained open the entire time. and see, u were rewarded
I hate when I get Cracker Jacks and there is a “fun fact” inside instead of a joke.
Just finished season 3 of Mad Men. God I love that show and am happy to see more of Joan in season 4. I did not like her absence in this one.
A priest, a pedophile and a rapist enter a bar. And that’s just the first guy.

Does this mean I can officially consider myself a “freelance” writer?
I enjoyed making two lunches this morning. I could happily get used to that.
Me: Wanna hear the interview I edited?
BF: Sure.
(we listen)
Me: Wanna hear how it sounded the first time I tried editing it all?
BF: No, I'm sure it's even worse.
Me: Wait, what do you mean "even" worse....
So I made the spring black rice for dinner last night for the bf and I, and lemme tell you, cooking stuff in orange juice makes it sooooo tasty! Definitely recommend the recipe.
Carly: the homeless woman that ate my sandwich today asked what it was before accepting it
Carly: im glad to know that when i become homeless and unemployed this summer, i can still have the option of declining sandwiches with mayo
Today I left my phone and work ID at home, got to work only to find my computer still not hooked up, bumped my head really hard on my desk while trying to arrange computer after they did finally hook it back up, had a scheduled interview completely bail on me (leaving me to possibly fail an assignment), and ordered/paid extra for avacado on my sandwich at lunch only to have them leave it off.
The...
My god when will the motorcades and sirens and helicopters end?
